Calling all our wonderful volunteers! The Holiday Craft Fair is coming up, on Sat. Nov 25th. It’s a fun and fast paced volunteer opportunity at one of our biggest events of the year.
We also have volunteer opportunities for the night before to help with set up.
If decorating is more to your liking, we also have a decorating sign up on Nov. 17th.
Please contact our volunteer coordinator Alysha if you would like more info or to sign up! (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Do you have baskets around the house that are taking up space and need a new home? If so, we can use them for our Craft Fair raffle prizes. Please drop them off at the front desk until November 18th. Thank you!
The Dunbar Community Centre Association Special General Meeting was conducted on September 27th at 7:30 PM. There were approximately 30 members present. In attendance from the Parks Board as guests were Donnie Rosa, Director of Recreation, Jennifer Swan, Dunbar Community Recreation Supervisor and Roy Liu, Senior Programmer.
After a presentation and question period, the members passed a resolution to accept the proposed JOA conditional on final resolution of some outstanding matters (20 in favour, 4 against, 0 abstaining) and passed a special resolution to amend the DCCA by-laws to provide program participants with the option to decline the free membership given upon program registration (21 in favour, 1 against, 1 abstaining).
Thank you to all members who attended and participated in the meeting and for their support for the Dunbar Community Centre and the Dunbar Community Centre Association and its Board.
The members at the SGM passed both of the recommended resolutions last evening. Thank you all for the thoughtful deliberations, work in reviewing materials and attending meetings and assistance to the board and to those members actively participating in the negotiations and consultations. Thank you to Laurel Giassa for your hard work in organizing the logistics for the meeting and preparing all the formal notices and supporting materials. The discussion at the meeting aired a number of concerns that the members had and that we have discussed over the years. The votes and the comments were very supportive of us and our efforts throughout this long and sometimes frustrating and always complex process. Hopefully the overall process with all community centres will result in a new JOA. Now we can return our focus to the day to day operations of the Association and Centre and the more exciting tasks of working with the public and staff to provide programs and services to be enjoyed by our community.
Thank you as well to staff who helped us organize and run the meeting. Thank you to staff and instructors for your ongoing efforts at providing programs and services without being distracted at the long and sometimes argumentative process of negotiation and consultation.
